“The goal is to cause enough electoral votes to not be certified before the cut off, so that neither candidate gets to 270 votes. Trump doesn’t have to WIN the electoral vote, he just needs to make sure that Harris doesn’t get a majority of the votes. For example, if the vote turned out as polling suggests, but trump was able to keep michigan, arizona and georgia from certifying their elections, Harris would get 261 votes to trump’s 235.

Since neither received 270, the election goes to the house. But the vote is not made by each individual rep. Instead, the reps from each state cast a single vote per state. More states have a majority of republicans. So, the house would elect trump as president.

The supreme court doesn’t get involved because this is the procedure set forth in the constitution. This is what the whole “election integrity” movement is setting up. Everything depends on keeping a couple of battleground states from certifying their results before the deadline. That’s where you will see the fight.

EDITED TO ADD: the electoral reform act of 2022 has legislatively closed this loophole. It would appear that Koch Industries has a hierarchy culture, due to the amount of control by the two private owners, the Koch brothers. Although the Koch brothers yield such complete control over Koch Industries, their focused culture seems to be more market culture leaning. Koch brothers are observed to show tendencies that stress “the power of the market”.  We have recently learned that a market culture often centers its focus around pleasing the customer, maintaining production, and building competition with an end goal of achieving the highest profitability.

            The article explains that Koch Industries paid $30 million in 2000 when their pipelines began to leak. This was at one point, the highest civil fine ever. Koch also took advantage of a controversial tax loophole known as the black-liquor tax credit in order to stay competitive during the 2009 economy crash right after the acquisition of Georgia-Pacific. A questioning of ethics among employees for the greater-good of the company is observed in a statement from Karen Cole, spokeswoman for Georgia-Pacific. She claims that the company did not advocate to receive the tax credit but knew that refusing to take the life vest would result in the company’s competitive disadvantage in the market. In market culture, employees are expected to find ways to save or make the company more money. In doing so, ethics have taken a backseat when questionable practices can be well argued in a court room.

            The opening statement in Koch’s business philosophy even suggests that it promotes “Market-Based Management”. While there are many examples that would suggest Koch Industries focus on an overall market culture, I still want to delve into what traits could possibly be seen as hierarchy culture. For example, the Koch brothers have shown a history of having negative views of unionized labor. Control is shown as the main “thrust” in hierarchy culture according to the competing values framework. The attempt to maintain control of employees even went as far as restriction of employees’ posts on social media according to a complaint filed by the union.

            It is stated in the article that Koch Industries shows a skepticism of government. This skepticism of government paired with the 2009 economic collapse could have played a role in the espoused values shown in the actions of the company propping up the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney; hoping to get employees to vote for him.

A basic assumption can be observed in Koch’s disinterest in regular bookkeeping. Instead, they make a plan for each year by predicting its revenue for the coming year. The focus for the managers is strictly to grow the company.
